This is a very simple mix, containing only two essential ingredients - coconut oil and manuka honey - but it's effective. Use this mask and feel your hair drink it up.
We tend to add peppermint oil for the smell - it's also good if you're looking to grow your hair as it regenerates the follicles in the scalp. It's the honey and coconut oil that do the serious nourishment work though. You can also add half a tablespoon of cold-pressed avocado oil if your hair is feeling exceptionally dry, or a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar if you want to add some shine.
Extra-virgin coconut oil contains lauric acid which binds to the protein in your hair and protects both the roots and strands from breakage. Its properties allow the oil to penetrate the hair shaft, which means it can both deeply moisturise (but not leave a greasy film) and protect against environmental impurities and excess heat.
We're obsessed with manuka honey - it's a wonder ingredient. Because it's a natural humectant, using it on your hair attracts and retains moisture giving softness, smoothness and deep nourishment. It won't make hair sticky as you may think - it washes straight out.
Both extra-virgin coconut oil and manuka honey are highly antifungal and antibacterial, meaning they are great for treating dandruff and encouraging hair growth.
All you need:
1 tbsp Sister & Co. Coconut Oil
1 tbsp raw manuka honey
optional: 3-4 drops peppermint essential oil, 1 tbsp cold-pressed avocado oil, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
All you need to do:
Combine the ingredients and gently heat in a saucepan- the heat will help your hair follicles open up.
Apply the warm mask to dry or wet hair (we've found that it's easier to apply to wet hair). Section your hair off and apply generously from top to bottom, focusing on the ends where most damage occurs. Wrap your hair in a bun, put a shower cap over the top if you have one to hand to retain the warmth and let the mask soak in for 30-40 minutes. Wash the mask out in the shower using your normal shampoo (we recommend two shampoos) - and enjoy your good hair day!
